Minister Cseke Attila announced measures to increase efficiency in local public administration, which will generate savings of 1.7 billion lei. A reduction of 13,000 occupied positions is expected, equivalent to 10% of the total, with a transitional measure applicable in 2026, allowing either the reduction of positions or a 10% decrease in personnel expenses. In 2027, actual cuts in positions will be imposed.

For local authorities, a reduction percentage of 30% will be applied, but with a limitation of 20% for occupied positions, so that authorities with efficient mayors are not significantly affected. Additionally, a 10% reduction in personnel expenses will be applied in central public administration, with flexibility for main credit managers. Exceptions to these measures will be for nurseries, pre-university education, and hospitals.
