Government reorganizes the Economy Ministry / 109 vacant positions eliminated, while the number of management positions is reduced

The Government approved on Thursday the reorganization of the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism by eliminating 109 vacant positions and reducing the number of management positions from 80 to 48. The measure aims to streamline the institution’s structure and reduce personnel expenses, in accordance with the obligation set out in Government Emergency Ordinance 7/2026.

The estimated savings amount to approximately 470,000 lei in 2026, calculated proportionally to the number of months in which the reorganization will be implemented, and around 2.7 million lei annually starting in 2027.

The new structure will be organized into eight general directorates, with more clearly delineated responsibilities. The Government maintains that the ministry’s responsibilities will be fully preserved, including those assumed through legislation adopted subsequently.

Occupied executive positions will be transferred to the new organizational chart, in compliance with legal procedures. Management positions retained without substantial changes will continue to be held by their current incumbents. For positions whose responsibilities change significantly or which are eliminated, the provisions and guarantees of the Administrative Code will apply. The reorganization also aims to improve the funding of economic programs, as well as Romania’s representation in European dossiers and trade policies.
