Liberal deputy Raluca Turcan accused the PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, on Tuesday of a "manipulative" and "false" attack against Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, following a statement regarding Romania's borrowing.
She claims that Grindeanu compares different indicators and ignores the official figures from the Ministry of Finance, according to which the budget deficit in the first five months of 2026 is lower than in similar periods in 2024 and 2025.
Turcan stated that Romania is borrowing about 25 billion lei less for current expenses compared to 2024 and over 28 billion lei less compared to 2025, rejecting Grindeanu's claims regarding public debt service.
The reaction comes after the PSD president stated that the state is borrowing approximately 900 euros per hour, which is about 25 billion lei more than in 2024, and criticized the government's economic policy, citing rising unemployment and a high number of bankruptcies.
Turcan added that Grindeanu "confused" the figures and called for honesty in public discourse.
