The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, discussed on Digi24 about the drone incidents in Tulcea County, which generated three RO-Alert messages.
He explained that the drones were shot down by Ukrainians in their airspace, only marginally entering Romanian airspace. Miruță emphasized that the pilots of the fighter jets had approval to shoot down the drones if they penetrated deep into Romanian territory. However, he mentioned that there are areas where shooting down drones could affect the population, considering that some are equipped with explosive payloads.
The minister clarified that the drone from a viral video was not in Romanian airspace and that Romania cannot shoot down drones that are in Ukrainian airspace. He highlighted the complexity of the situation, considering the trajectories of the drones that may temporarily intersect Romanian airspace.
