The Social Democratic Party is electing, on Friday, at Romexpo, a new leadership during a Congress, after a difficult period related to conflicts within the governing coalition and the historic failure at last year's presidential elections, when for the first time the PSD candidate did not reach the second round of voting.
Initially, there were two candidates for the presidency of the PSD, but Senator Titus Corlățean withdrew from the race a month before the congress.
The congress takes place under the motion titled "United for Romanians. Strong, only together!"
The PSD congress also comes with a change in ideology. Sorin Grindeanu announced that at the Congress the PSD's statute and Statute will be modified, so that the term progressive will be eliminated, and the party will return to Christian values.
