Ciprian Ciucu, first vice-president of PNL, stated that if the PSD-AUR majority brings down the government through a motion of censure, they must take responsibility for governing. He emphasized that PSD has nothing more to offer PNL or Romanians, considering that the party is in free fall and wants to drag everyone down with it. Ciucu declared that PNL will no longer accept being the "plaything" of PSD and that it will not form a new coalition with this party.
He explained PNL's options in the event that the motion passes or is rejected, mentioning the possibility of remaining with a minority government or going into opposition. Ciucu emphasized that PNL has regained its dignity and that an alliance with PSD would be considered ridiculous. Although he acknowledges that there are PNL members who would like to collaborate with PSD, he stated that they are in the minority.
"Whoever creates a majority to bring down a government, logically, must have a prepared majority to replace that government. So the PSD-AUR majority, if they bring down the government, must take on governance. It is logical. In any democratic country, in any liberal democracy, at the moment you bring down a government, you are prepared not to throw the country into chaos. We had two meetings that we had consecutively a month ago and a week ago, in which we said if you bring down this government, we can no longer trust you. It is out of the question to form any coalition with you. So we told them then, we are telling them now. So they will have to create the majority because they detonated this bomb and they are throwing Romania into crisis, not PNL.
We have an option where the government does not fall and this government remains, as it is, minority, until the fall, when another motion of censure can be introduced. This is an option we have. The second option we have is to go into opposition. There are no other options left, because PSD has compromised us too much. PSD at this moment has fallen below PNL. It has nothing more to offer us, neither to us nor to Romanians, this party. This party is going down and wants to drag us all down with it. The National Liberal Party is a party that has regained its dignity today. For this reason, we no longer accept to be the plaything of PSD," declared Ciprian Ciucu on Sunday, at Antena 3 CNN.
