Deputy Alexandru Muraru, leader of PNL Iași, stated that the favorable vote given in the Human Rights Committee for the repeal of antifascist and anti-legionary legislation is of "extreme gravity" and represents an attack on the foundation of democracy.
Muraru called on PSD to stop this "antidemocratic deviation" before the project reaches the plenary. He emphasized that the initiative, initiated by extremist formations and supported by PSD parliamentarians, is an insult to the memory of the Holocaust victims and an attempt to rehabilitate totalitarian currents. The repeal of OUG 31/2002 and Law 217/2015, essential normative acts for the democracy of Romania, would allow the legalization of hate speech and the glorification of war criminals. Muraru warned that if PSD does not withdraw its support for this project, it will confirm the alliance with extremist forces, thus undermining the democratic security of the Romanian state.
