PNL accuses PSD of voting, on Tuesday, for the AUR proposal to lead the public television broadcaster, arguing that the decision is the result of a political agreement between the two parties.
The liberals state that the Social Democrats placed one of Romania’s most important information institutions „in the hands of an extremist party” and demand that PSD publicly explain why it supported this proposal and what it would have received in return.
According to PNL, the vote confirms the accusations made a week earlier, according to which PSD and AUR support each other’s people and interests. The party emphasizes that the stakes are all the more important given that Romanian Television is funded by all citizens and represents the main source of information for millions of Romanians.
The liberals also invoke the regional security context, pointing out that Romania is located on the border of a war, while disinformation and propaganda constitute real threats. PNL accuses AUR of promoting anti-European messages and narratives that undermine trust in state institutions, the European Union, and Romania’s strategic partnerships.
PNL also states that TVR must remain an institution belonging to all Romanians, not one controlled by PSD or AUR. The liberals’ accusations were not accompanied, in the cited statement, by a reaction from PSD.
