Petrişor Peiu (AUR): “I don’t believe that all PNL parliamentarians will vote for the Mureşan government, if it comes to a vote”

AUR First Deputy Chairman Petrișor Peiu stated exclusively to Digi24 that the nomination of Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister would indicate coordination between President Nicușor Dan and the PSD. Peiu maintains that Mureșan has no chance of securing Parliament’s vote and that he was proposed precisely so that he would not be invested.

The AUR leader announced that the party’s lawmakers would not vote for the government, since AUR is not part of it and the party’s program for overcoming the crisis had not been adopted. Peiu also stated that not all PNL lawmakers would support the Executive if it came to a vote.

According to him, the next nomination could be one agreed upon by Nicușor Dan and the PSD. Peiu argued that a potential parliamentary majority could be formed with the support of unaffiliated lawmakers, representatives of the minorities, the UDMR, some factions that split from POT and SOS România, and some liberals dissatisfied with the PNL leadership.

He described this majority as one based on circumstances and warned that a government installed under these conditions would be unstable and would not last long. The statements were made after Siegfried Mureșan’s nomination.

”I don’t believe all PNL lawmakers will vote for the Mureșan government if it comes to a vote. From the discussions I hear from my liberal colleagues as well, not all of them will vote for this government. I think it is quite obvious to everyone that it will not receive a single vote from us, but I believe this is some kind of championship that he has initiated, to avoid getting votes from parties other than those that nominated him. This nomination was clearly made with the aim of giving him no chance whatsoever, and I believe an attempt is being made to create a situation in which, as a kind of last chance for lawmakers who know for certain that they will not secure a seat in the future Parliament, they will vote for a government, whatever it may be,” Petrișor Peiu said on Digi24.
