President Nicușor Dan has made a call for dialogue on platform X, expressing his deep concern regarding the escalation of public statements among transatlantic allies. His message comes in the wake of threats of tariffs of up to 25% from U.S. President Donald Trump, targeting products from eight European countries in the context of discussions related to Greenland. Trump announced that, starting February 1, he will impose a 10% surcharge on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland. In response, the eight European countries issued a joint statement of solidarity with Greenland, emphasizing their commitment to strengthening security in the Arctic. They warned that threats of tariffs could undermine transatlantic relations and lead to a dangerous downward spiral. An emergency meeting of ambassadors from the European Union is scheduled for Sunday in Brussels to discuss these issues.
