President Nicușor Dan has signed the recall decrees for four Romanian ambassadors, including Sorin-Dan Mihalache from Cyprus, Radu-Cătălin Mardare from Lebanon, Răduța Dana Matache from the Philippines, and Ștefan-Alexandru Tinca from Turkey.
The decision was announced after Mihalache, appointed ambassador in 2021 by Klaus Iohannis, was recalled to Bucharest. Nicușor Dan stated that, in March, the recall of 40-50 ambassadors is expected, motivated by the cancellation of the presidential elections in 2024, which has led to exceeding the usual four-year term of office.
He emphasized the need for more active economic diplomacy, mentioning that ambassadors must be more involved in developing economic relations with host countries.
