The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, signed on Friday, April 3, 2026, the decree appointing Dacian Julien Cioloș as presidential advisor, who is set to begin his term on Monday, April 6. On the occasion of the International Day of Francophonie, Nicușor Dan proposed Cioloș for the position of Secretary General of the International Organization of Francophonie. Dacian Cioloș previously served as presidential advisor to Ilie Bolojan, following the resignation of former president Klaus Iohannis. Additionally, Cioloș was Minister of Agriculture in 2007 and European Commissioner for Agriculture from 2010, and in November 2015 he was appointed Prime Minister of Romania following Victor Ponta's resignation, in the context of the Colectiv tragedy.
