President Nicușor Dan declared on Wednesday evening, that he asked the parties, during the consultations held at the Cotroceni Palace, to de-escalate public rhetoric and to "look to the future, what we will do, more than to the past", "to look for solutions more than for problems".
"We are clearly in a political crisis. This crisis did not start today; for months, the elections have been delayed, and the differences of opinion among the coalition parties have intensified. What I asked the parties during the discussions I had, and I am making it public now, is to de-escalate public rhetoric on one hand, and then to look to the future, what we will do, more than to the past, to look for solutions more than for problems.
In any political formula, whether majority or minority, we will need dialogue among pro-Western political forces, so de-escalation at this moment is necessary to have a dialogue in the future. Beyond this political crisis, we must also assure the Romanians that we have functioning state institutions; we are a functional state, with a difference of opinion at the political level. The pro-Western direction of Romania is not up for discussion.
So, stay calm and we will get through this!" said President Nicușor Dan on Wednesday evening after consultations with the parties in the governing coalition.
