President Nicuşor Dan has convened a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defence, which will take place on Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Cotroceni Palace. The meeting’s agenda includes issues concerning Romania’s military planning, implementation of the European SAFE programme and the strengthening of the U.S. military presence in the country.
CSAT members will analyse the Romanian Armed Forces’ Armament Plan for 2027–2036 and the Romanian Armed Forces 2044 Programme. The document concerning the implementation of the SAFE programme, approved during an interinstitutional meeting on 13 August 2026, will also be discussed.
Another item on the agenda concerns the terms of reference for the review, at the level of the United States Department of War, of the posture of U.S. forces and deployment locations in Europe. In this context, Romanian authorities will also analyse measures to strengthen the U.S. military presence in Romania.
The Presidential Administration states that other current national security issues will also be included on the meeting’s agenda.
The meeting takes place amid an assessment of Romania’s defence priorities for the coming years and military cooperation with the United States and European partners.
