President Nicușor Dan is exploring two options to resolve the political crisis generated by the possible ousting of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan through a vote of no confidence.
The first option would involve the PNL proposing another liberal prime minister, thus maintaining the PSD-PNL-USR-UDMR governing coalition, which is also desired by the PSD. The second option would involve appointing a technocratic prime minister, who would negotiate with the parties to form a majority, without waiting for a prior political agreement, an option that would be preferred by the president, according to some sources. In this case, the PNL would have to decide between going into opposition with Bolojan or continuing to govern without him. The technocratic prime minister would remain in office until December 2028, and the PSD would be willing to give up the governmental rotation from April 2024, provided that the current coalition continues without Bolojan.
