Maramureș MP Călin Florin Groza announced on Monday that he is leaving the United for Romania (UPR) parliamentary group and will join the parliamentary group of the PSD. The decision will take effect on October 5, 2026, according to the notice submitted to the Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies.
“I will no longer serve in the UPR parliamentary group and will serve as a deputy belonging to the PSD parliamentary group,” the parliamentarian stated, quoted by News.ro. Until the announcement, Groza held the position of secretary of the UPR parliamentary group.
The deputy’s move changes the composition of the United for Romania group, which will be left with 16 members in the Chamber of Deputies. The UPR parliamentary group was established in May, after the dissolution of the POT group.
The parliamentary formation is led by Răzvan Chiriță. Its members also include deputy Victor Ponta, who, during the consultations held at Cotroceni Palace, had declared that he was willing to take over as prime minister.
With Călin Florin Groza’s move to the PSD, the UPR group loses one member and one representative from its leadership, while the deputy continues his parliamentary activity within the social-democratic formation.
