The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, discussed the possible effects of a withdrawal of the United States from NATO on Romania, emphasizing the importance of Americans for national security. In an interview, Miruță stated that Romania takes on defense commitments at the European and NATO levels, including increasing investments in the Ministry of Defense.

He mentioned that the strategic partnership with the United States is essential, and Romania has demonstrated this by the recent approval of American requests for refueling and satellite communication aircraft. Although Miruță acknowledged that Romania cannot influence President Donald Trump's decisions, he emphasized that the country will continue to respect its obligations to NATO.

Trump previously stated that he is considering withdrawing from the alliance, calling it a "paper tiger," which has amplified concerns regarding European security. Miruță reaffirmed that Romania will continue to fulfill its commitments made within NATO.
