The general mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, stated that the mayors around Bucharest are profiting from the money of Bucharesters by offering free or nearly free transportation. STB, the public transport company in Bucharest, has approximately 10,000 employees, but less than half of them are drivers. Ciucu emphasized that the STB budget is equivalent to that of the city of Brașov, having costs twice as high, including for investments in infrastructure. He mentioned that the General City Hall does not have direct control over STB, which is subordinate to an intercommunity agency, and that most of the costs are borne by Bucharesters. Additionally, Ciucu criticized the waste of resources and suggested that the price of a trip should be 5 lei, a proposal that was not approved by the general councilors.
