Member of the European Parliament Maria Grapini expressed concerns regarding the preparation of customs points in Romania, during the show Be EU at Antena 3. Grapini emphasized the importance of properly equipping national customs and the professional training of customs workers, considering the deadline of 2028 for the functioning of the European Customs Authority, EUCA. She mentioned that Romania must be prepared to prevent the entry of non-compliant products, especially in the context of implementing trade agreements with Mercosur and India. Grapini highlighted that, although the competence for controlling the entry of goods lies with the member states, the European Union must collaborate to ensure the protection of citizens. EUCA, consisting of approximately 250 officials, will coordinate the oversight of imports in the EU, having the capacity to block non-compliant products. In the competition for hosting EUCA, Bucharest was surpassed by Lille, France, which received 36 votes.
