Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu announces that the experience gained in coordinating Romania’s accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will form the basis of the future government program. In a message posted on Facebook, he maintains that reforms must be built on real data, the situation on the ground, and solutions tested in other states.
Niculescu says that, over the past four years, the accession process has given him a broad perspective on the main areas of the Romanian state: the economy, administration, education, healthcare, state-owned companies, the labor market, and taxation.
The prime minister-designate states that accession to the OECD has already entailed more than 100 reforms for Romania. He said he wants this work to continue and be included in the Executive’s program, not only because it is recommended by the international organization, but also because the measures have been evaluated and implemented in “some of the world’s best-performing economies.”
Niculescu emphasizes that the accession process also demonstrated the importance of political consensus. According to him, the parties managed to jointly support a strategic objective, beyond their differences. The prime minister-designate says he hopes for the same openness around a realistic program and declares himself willing to discuss any useful proposal, regardless of the political formation it comes from.
We remind you that President Nicușor Dan appointed him on Monday evening to form a government, five months after Ilie Bolojan’s cabinet was brought down by a motion of no confidence on May 5.
