Prime Minister Luca Niculescu spoke by phone on Tuesday with Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), about Romania’s accession process to the organisation. The head of government assured the OECD official that Romania remains fully committed to becoming a member as soon as possible.
In a message posted on the X platform, Luca Niculescu said that the accession process provides Romania with a framework for adopting effective policies and practices for the benefit of citizens and the economy. The prime minister stressed that this objective is also set out in the Governing Programme.
Mathias Cormann said he was optimistic about completing the procedure. The OECD Secretary-General noted Romania’s sustained efforts and the major reforms implemented in recent years.
Cormann thanked Niculescu for his contribution to the process, including during the periods when he served as ambassador and high-level coordinator. The OECD official expressed hope that Romania would successfully complete the necessary assessments and join the organisation.
