Prime Minister Luca Niculescu received Albanian Foreign Minister Fer Hoxha at Victoria Palace on Thursday for talks on bilateral economic relations, Albania’s European path and cooperation within NATO. The meeting took place amid efforts to strengthen security on the Alliance’s eastern flank and support for the European Union’s enlargement toward the Western Balkans.
At the end of the meeting, Niculescu said that Romania firmly supports Albania’s accession to the European Union as part of a merit-based process. The prime minister also mentioned that Bucharest supports EU enlargement toward the Western Balkans, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
Another important topic was deepening and diversifying economic cooperation between Romania and Albania. The two officials examined ways to advance the bilateral agenda and develop relations between the two countries.
Niculescu praised Albania’s contribution to NATO’s South-Eastern Multinational Brigade, an allied formation deployed in Romania. Albanian troops are taking part in defending the eastern flank, and the Romanian prime minister described their involvement as proof of solidarity and a shared commitment to strengthening regional deterrence and defence.
The prime minister reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to working with Albania for the stability, security and prosperity of the region.
