Peter Magyar, the president of the Tisza party and winner of the parliamentary elections in Hungary, is set to meet on Tuesday in Budapest with the leader of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor. This is the first official discussion between the two after the electoral vote.
Magyar announced the meeting on social media, stating that the agenda for the discussions will include the formation of the new government and relations with the Hungarian community in Romania. During the electoral campaign, he criticized the support given by UDMR to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, claiming that Hungarians in Transylvania had been "misled."
In response, Kelemen Hunor stated that UDMR acted in accordance with the opinion of the majority of Hungarians in Transylvania and emphasized that the election results mark a new stage in politics in Hungary. He also highlighted the importance of the future leadership in Budapest's responsibility towards the Hungarian community in Romania.
