Hubert Thuma, the president of the Ilfov County Council, expressed criticism towards the leadership of the National Liberal Party (PNL) in the context of negotiations for forming the new Government. He emphasized that Romania can no longer afford a prolonged political deadlock and urged PNL to take responsibility for governance.
“I do not want to recap what has happened in recent days: we all know, we have read the same news, we have received the same messages. However, I want to say something that I believe needs to be said out loud: I do not agree with the direction in which the party leadership is pushing us at this moment. I do not agree at all. And I am not saying this to create tension. I am saying it because silence, now, would be a form of complicity in a mistake. It is time to stop behaving as if we had the luxury of time,” said Hubert Thuma.
Thuma highlighted the economic difficulties and uncertainty affecting entrepreneurs and mayors, arguing that politics should focus on national interest, not on party comfort. He also challenged the idea of excluding colleagues who take political responsibilities, stating that PNL must remain a party of debate and diversity. Thuma concluded that Romania needs a stable government and that PNL must prioritize the interests of the country over party interests.
