The initiators from PSD, Silvia Mihalcea, Simona Bucura Oprescu, Corina Ene, and Victoria Stoiciu, announced the submission of a draft law in Parliament aimed at preventing and combating femicides, which introduces for the first time in Romania the concept of femicide. This initiative, supported by over 250 parliamentarians, comes from a cross-party working group and aims to recognize violence against women as a structural problem.

The project proposes defining femicide, increasing penalties for gender-based violence offenses, ex officio criminal actions, and extended protection for victims. It also anticipates the collection of statistical data and the introduction of gender equality education in schools. Through these measures, Romania aims to stop violence before it leads to murder, thus strengthening the values of respect and equality in society.
