The president of PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, stated that the migration of the social-democratic electorate towards AUR "is evident", emphasizing that this phenomenon is not limited to PSD, but is also observed among other parties, such as PNL.
AUR, which entered Parliament in 2020 with a percentage of 7-8%, has now risen to 17-18%, indicating a redistribution of votes from various parties.
Grindeanu ruled out collaboration with AUR at present, but mentioned that he cannot guarantee this in the long term. He emphasized the fundamental differences between PSD and AUR, highlighting PSD's commitment to European values and support for Ukraine in the context of Russia's aggression. Grindeanu reaffirmed that PSD will only collaborate with pro-European parties.
"I do not believe I will be able to say what will happen in the future for this party in 10 years and for AUR. I cannot say forever. (...) At this time, in the way things are arranged, PSD has announced that it will not form a majority with AUR. (...) There are things that divide us. That is why we talk about pro-European parties and anti-European parties. PSD is not a populist party, it is not a party that advocates otherwise than according to the principles of the European Union. We are the ones who closed the negotiations of Romania with the European Union, we are the ones who have always acted when we were in power to enter NATO, to enter the European Union, to enter Schengen, there are a few things that set us apart. We have been and are supporters of what Ukraine means. Russia's aggression in Ukraine I believe is something that fundamentally differentiates PSD, the way we treat, PSD and AUR, this aggression and ultimately PSD does not wish at this moment to be part of a coalition other than one of pro-European parties", said Sorin Grindeanu.
