The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) has published a draft emergency ordinance that allows farmers to purchase diesel at a reduced price, without VAT and excise duties, for mechanized agricultural work. This measure comes in response to the significant increase in diesel prices, caused by the situation in the Middle East, where prices have risen by 25% to 50%. The Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, announced that support will be granted based on certificates issued by APIA, targeting a standard consumption of 78 liters per hectare for the year 2026. MADR emphasizes that diesel accounts for between 19% and 30% of farmers' total costs, and the lack of a rapid intervention could lead to distortions in agricultural markets, increased financial vulnerability of farmers, and even bankruptcies in the sector.
