The president of USR, Dominic Fritz, responded on Wednesday to attacks related to his German origin and to MEP Siegfried Mureșan, stating that such messages undermine the unity of Romania. In a video message on Facebook, Fritz mocked the accusations of "espionage" and explained that if Germany wanted to infiltrate someone into Romanian politics, it would have chosen a common name, not one like Fritz.

He emphasized that xenophobic attacks are dangerous, considering Romania's ethnic diversity, which includes citizens of German, Hungarian, Bulgarian, and other origins. Fritz stated that questioning patriotism based on ethnicity is unpatriotic and warned that such campaigns can create a climate of hatred.

He also highlighted the importance of diversity and international connections in Romanian politics, considering them advantages, not reasons for suspicion. MEP Siegfried Mureșan supported Fritz's message, stating that those who promote such attacks want to divide Romania.
