The president of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, reacted on Wednesday to the announcement of deputy Zakarias Zoltan, who stated that he is resigning from the UDMR parliamentary group to serve as an independent deputy, representing the Hungarian Alliance Party from Transylvania. Hunor emphasized that Zoltan was brought into Parliament twice thanks to UDMR and expressed surprise at his decision to become independent.

According to Zoltan, the split was caused by the lack of realization of the agreement made in 2024, with UMT criticizing UDMR for questioning the existence of smaller parties. Zoltan also reproached Kelemen Hunor for acting in the interest of the future governing party immediately after the elections in Hungary. Hunor concluded that he has no further comments and wished Zoltan success in his new capacity.
