Members of the European Parliament are meeting today to vote on the lifting of the immunity of Diana Șoșoacă, the president of SOS Romania, following a request from the General Prosecutor's Office. She is accused of committing several offenses, including legionary propaganda.
The vote will take place at 1 PM, Romanian time, according to the announcement made by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. Last week, the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament voted in favor of lifting the immunity, with 17 votes in favor and one abstention. Diana Șoșoacă was heard by this committee, and the report by MEP Dominik Tarczynski calls for the lifting of immunity for all offenses for which she is being investigated, with the exception of one related to a speech in which she promoted foreign policy strategies inspired by Nicolae Ceaușescu. Diana Șoșoacă stated that this request represents an attempt at political execution.
