The National Trade Union Bloc (BNS) welcomed the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), which confirms the validity of the European directive on adequate minimum wage. BNS emphasizes the importance of promoting collective bargaining and the obligation of member states to develop action plans to increase the coverage of collective negotiations. At the same time, BNS warned that it will notify the European Commission if the Romanian Government decides to freeze the minimum wage.

The Court annulled certain provisions regarding the criteria for establishing minimum wages, but reaffirmed the Government's obligation to continue applying the minimum wage adjustment mechanism according to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). BNS reminds that Romania has a clear milestone in the PNRR for defining a tripartite mechanism for determining the minimum wage, established by HG 35/2025, which correlates the minimum wage with productivity and the cost of living.

Trade unionists emphasize the necessity of respecting this milestone and consulting social partners, warning that non-compliance could lead to financial losses from European funds. BNS urges the Government to implement the established calculation formula and to extend collective negotiations to ensure sustainable and fair wage increases.
