The National Trade Union Bloc (BNS) criticizes the meeting between Prime Minister Luca Niculescu and representatives of the business community, held on Monday, October 26, 2026, and accuses the Government of starting out with the “same old practices” as previous governments: selective dialogue and priority given to capital, while workers are ignored.
Union representatives claim they were not informed about the organization of a similar meeting with employee representatives, who defend the interests of approximately five million workers in Romania. The BNS considers that discussions about reforms, competitiveness, productivity, and economic development cannot be conducted legitimately without the participation of trade unions.
The organization points out that wages, working conditions, purchasing power, labor taxation, and social protection are issues with a direct impact on millions of people. The BNS calls on the Prime Minister to treat capital and the workforce with the same seriousness and to demonstrate through actions that social dialogue will not remain a mere formal obligation.
Luca Niculescu stated, after the meeting with businesspeople, that the engines of the economy must be restarted and that the Government must be a fair partner. The Prime Minister also maintained that fiscal consolidation cannot be achieved indefinitely through tax increases and advocated reducing waste, combating tax evasion, and improving tax collection.
