Before undertaking the initiative for meetings, the trade unions criticized Prime Minister Luca Niculescu’s meeting with representatives of the business community, saying that the government was starting with the “same old habits” and practicing selective dialogue, without involving the unions representing employees. Union representatives called for salaries, working conditions, purchasing power, and social protection to be discussed with the same priority as the interests of capital.
At the same time, the five trade union confederations had previously stated that the issues related to the unified pay law had not been resolved, accusing the bill of “major errors” and of maintaining inequities/discrimination in the public sector. They called for an end to the disinformation campaign and the withdrawal of the bill, requesting that the reform be resumed within a framework of genuine social dialogue.
