Traian Băsescu discussed on Digi24 about the increase in fuel prices, suggesting that the Government should not intervene and let the market regulate prices. The former president warned that governmental interventions could lead to a deficit, forcing Romania to borrow. Băsescu emphasized the need for a preventive agreement with the IMF to avoid high interest rates in case of an economic crisis. He proposed facilities for farmers and transporters, including those in rail transport, and criticized the Competition Council for its lack of action in preventing speculation. Băsescu mentioned that Romania should have fuel reserves and highlighted the importance of optimizing consumption, especially in the context of high prices.
