Traian Băsescu, former president of Romania, stated that the country is facing the "greatest political crisis" since the post-December period, highlighting the difficulties in forming a government with a majority support.
Băsescu mentioned that the current deadlock is caused by the "red lines" drawn by the parties and criticized the constitutional provisions that prevent the organization of early elections in such situations. He emphasized that, unlike other countries, Romania cannot dissolve parliament to organize elections, which leads to non-transparent negotiations for forming a majority.
Băsescu added that the Veștea government will not be able to pass through Parliament without an arrangement with the National Liberal Party, considering that without this support, the necessary majority cannot be achieved.
