Traian Băsescu believes that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan is the main culprit for the fact that Romania does not have a government with full powers.

Traian Băsescu, former president of Romania, harshly criticized the reactions within the PNL after the nomination of Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister, stating that the liberals received a candidate from the party leadership, exactly what they wanted.

In an interview with TVR Info, Băsescu dismissed the accusations of 'betrayal' made by PNL leaders, considering that the term is used abusively to mask the lack of solid political arguments. He emphasized that, although President Nicușor Dan should have informed Ilie Bolojan before the nomination, the omission is a matter of protocol, not a serious political violation. Băsescu also mentioned that the harsh reactions within the party are exaggerations meant to create impact and criticized the idea of keeping Bolojan as prime minister, reminding that he was dismissed through a vote of no confidence.

When asked what the liberal leader should do in this tense situation, Băsescu was blunt:

"He should be decent and let Parliament and the responsible institutions give the country a government. We need a government like air."
