Former President Traian Băsescu stated on Monday, regarding the ironic reaction of the Russian Embassy in the case of the drone that entered Romanian airspace, that he fears that it is based on the way Romanian authorities act. "If we had shot down the drone, at least the ambassador would have been quiet, he wouldn't be laughing at us anymore," pointed out the former head of state.

"If you are capable, you defend your airspace; if you are not capable, a drone roams around for 50 minutes in your airspace. So, there isn't much to comment on. And the stories that we would have shot it down, but we were afraid of setting the village on fire, of setting the forest on fire, of killing the horses in the Letea Forest... These are stories for us. When it comes to security, there is no higher priority than to demonstrate to the one who is testing you that you are capable of defending your airspace," emphasized Traian Băsescu.
