Petrișor Peiu, the president of the National Leadership Council of AUR, commented on the proposal from PNL, USR, and UDMR to nominate the MEP Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister, considering it a maneuver meant to complicate the situation for PSD. Peiu emphasized that no one would give up their mandate as an MEP for a prime minister position in Romania, where there is no guarantee of completing the mandate.
"I repeat, PNL, USR, UDMR proposed Mr. Mureșan just to make life a bit more bitter for the PSD members, because Mr. Mureșan does not want to come as prime minister, he will not interrupt his mandate from Brussels to be prime minister for six months, and then what? Go home, play chess in Cișmigiu?", stated Peiu.
He stated that the proposal is not serious and that early elections represent the rational solution for the current political crisis. Peiu criticized the idea of a minority government, arguing that it requires 233 votes to be invested, which makes it impossible.
He also mentioned that neither Mureșan nor Sorin Grindeanu have the necessary votes to obtain the investment. Peiu concluded that the crisis situation will continue if the parties do not reach a consensus.
