AUR has announced that it will contest a recently adopted law at the Constitutional Court, which provides the state with a mechanism for settling obligations and disputes, including in the case of the dispute with Pfizer, where Romania has to pay over 600 million euros.
Deputy Valeriu Munteanu accused the PSD-PNL-USR coalition of supporting this law, which could allow the Government to negotiate the settlement of debts, including through the use of public assets. Romania lost a lawsuit in the first instance against Pfizer for the ordered and refused anti-COVID vaccines, and the Government has begun negotiations to reduce the financial impact.
Munteanu emphasized that the law could allow the use of state assets to settle disputes, thus placing an additional burden on the shoulders of Romanians.
He also called for clarifications regarding responsibility for decisions made during the pandemic. The Government continues negotiations with Pfizer, exploring options such as staggered payments and compensation with medicines.
