Anamaria Gavrilă criticizes pro-Georgescu politicians, including George Simion: “They were partying with the lăutari!”

Anamaria Gavrilă, president of the Young People's Party, criticized George Simion and the other political leaders who say they support Călin Georgescu on Tuesday, after he was detained by DIICOT prosecutors. Gavrilă claimed that while the former candidate was in the investigators' custody, the leaders supporting him were attending a party organized by George Simion at a restaurant in Bucharest.

The POT leader also challenged the way the authorities intervened. She stated that while Georgescu was stopped in traffic, investigators entered his family's home, where a woman and a child were present. Gavrilă demanded explanations regarding the necessity and proportionality of the intervention, accusing authorities of using force unnecessarily and publicly exposing the operation.

Călin Georgescu was detained on Monday, September 21, following searches and questioning. DIICOT is investigating him, along with other individuals, for forming an organized criminal group and fraud with particularly serious consequences. Prosecutors requested his pretrial detention for 30 days, and the Bucharest Tribunal is expected to decide on the measure. Investigators estimate the damage at more than €1.1 million. Georgescu benefits from the presumption of innocence.
