The Eurydice 2023 report shows that Romanian teachers teach on average 17.4 hours per week, below the European average of 19.6 hours. This contradicts an analysis by the Institute of Educational Sciences (IȘE), which claimed that Romania would exceed the EU average with 20 hours of teaching. The education ministry rejected the IȘE analysis, accusing it lacked scientific validation and deleted relevant information from documents leaked to the press. Minister Daniel David said the IȘE figures were from an older report and justified his interventions. Romania also has a lower total working time of 34.5 hours per week, compared to 39 in the EU.
