Virgil Popescu has announced the amendment of Regulation (EU) 2017/1938, which provides for the extension of the obligation to build up natural gas stocks to 90% by the end of 2027. The removal of intermediate targets is intended to prevent manipulation on the gas market. The regulation allows Member States to deviate from the storage targets in unfavorable market conditions while ensuring security of gas supply. These amendments enter into force immediately after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
