SpaceX, the aerospace company led by Elon Musk, has announced to investors that it will prioritize a mission to the Moon before launching a journey to Mars.

According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, SpaceX aims for March 2027 for a lunar landing without astronauts on board. This decision was made after the company finalized an agreement to acquire the artificial intelligence startup xAI, valuing SpaceX at $1 trillion. Although Musk previously stated that he intends to send an uncrewed mission to Mars by the end of 2026, SpaceX is now focusing on the development of the Starship rocket, which will be used for missions to the Moon and Mars.
