Before NASA updated its plans for crewed missions to the Moon, SpaceX launched Starship from Texas on the vehicle’s first orbital flight and its first operational mission intended to launch satellites. The spacecraft completed six orbits around Earth and was expected to splash down in the Pacific Ocean west of Chile, after all previous test flights had remained in the suborbital region.
Separately, SpaceX and Blue Origin canceled their participation in the International Space Summit in Paris (September 9–10), following reports of political pressure from the White House, while two other American companies (Stoke Space and Starcloud) took the same step.
