SpaceX is in discussions with banks and asset managers to secure financing of approximately $40 billion, intended to purchase Nvidia chips for the development of artificial intelligence infrastructure, according to Reuters.
The information was provided by two sources familiar with the situation. The discussions are at an exploratory stage, and details regarding the financing structure, the lenders involved, and the transaction timeline have not been made public.
The potential financing would allow the space company founded by Elon Musk to purchase a significant volume of specialized chips produced by Nvidia. These are used to train and operate artificial intelligence models and to build data centers with high processing capabilities.
The news comes as demand for Nvidia chips has risen sharply amid massive investments in artificial intelligence. For SpaceX, securing the funds would represent a major expansion of its plans in this area, alongside its space activities and satellite communications projects.
To date, the company has not provided a public comment regarding the financing discussions.
