The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that the world must not allow the continuation of nuclear terrorism and emphasized that the most effective way to stop it is to compel Russia to cease its attacks. In a statement regarding the war in Ukraine, Zelensky warned that Russia is once again threatening global stability, having drones flying over Chernobyl, including one that struck the plant's protective facility last year.

Ukraine marks 40 years since the Chernobyl disaster, the worst nuclear catastrophe in history, which occurred on April 26, 1986, when reactor number 4 exploded during a safety test. The explosion led to widespread radioactive contamination, affecting Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, and Europe. Estimates of the number of deaths vary, with a 2005 UN report indicating 4,000 fatalities, while Greenpeace estimated that the total number could reach 100,000.
