Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will seek to ensure that there will be no Russian oil in Europe, after Hungary obtained a one-year exemption from American sanctions regarding imports of oil and gas from Russia. This exception was granted after a meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and American President Donald Trump, in which Orbán argued for the necessity of using Russian oil. Zelensky welcomed the U.S. efforts to prevent imports of Russian oil and accused Hungary of instrumentalizing the opposition to Ukraine for electoral purposes. He emphasized that oil and gas exports are essential for financing Russia's war against Ukraine and promised that Ukraine will continue to fight to limit Russia's access to European energy markets.
