The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from certain parts of Donbas, especially from the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, would be an irresponsible measure and would represent a strategic defeat for the Ukrainian army.
In a televised interview, Zelensky explained that such a withdrawal would weaken the fortifications and defensive lines, affecting the morale of the soldiers and putting at risk the lives of the 200,000 residents in the area. He also mentioned that, although American partners are willing to help build new fortifications, this process takes time. Zelensky emphasized that Russia shows no signs of wanting to stop the war, and peace negotiations should focus on a long-term ceasefire. Regarding a possible visit of American negotiators to Ukraine, the president stressed that this would be more necessary for the United States than for Ukraine, highlighting the importance of respect in international relations.
