Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the Russian attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia on Saturday morning, which killed 17 people, including three children. Another 16 people were injured, two of them seriously. Rescue teams continue searching through the rubble after a five-story residential building was hit by guided aerial bombs.
The death toll was updated during the day from 11 to 17. Rescuers found a woman alive after she spent more than eight hours under the rubble. Authorities in Zaporizhzhia have declared Sunday a day of mourning.
In a message posted on the X platform, Zelensky said Russia interpreted the lifting of sanctions on diesel fuel exports, agreed following a discussion between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, as encouragement. The Ukrainian leader said 13 regions had been attacked overnight and promised a Ukrainian response. The agreement on the supply of oil and petroleum products was criticized by the European Union, which warned that Moscow could obtain additional revenues to finance the war.
