Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that Ukraine received no prior warning from its Western partners before the Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Five missiles struck civilian infrastructure, while air raid alerts were activated after explosions had already been heard in the city.
Zelenskyy said that information about ballistic missile launches is essential for saving lives and described the attack as “particularly vile.” The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that it had received no surveillance warnings before the strikes and announced that it was investigating the situation.
The incident comes amid pressure from the Trump administration on Kyiv to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries. According to some reports, the United States had threatened to limit intelligence sharing and weapons deliveries. Zelenskyy said Ukraine had not targeted Russian refineries since the energy truce was announced.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that the exchange of military intelligence with the United States is continuing and attributed the delay to the characteristics of the weapons used. Russia did not attack Ukrainian energy infrastructure overnight, but it struck transport and logistics targets. The attacks killed four people in Kharkiv and wounded dozens more.
